Holiday Highlights

I think most people by now are focused on 2006, the future and what they are going to work on. Me? Honestly, I can’t believe it’s next year already. I told my husband I’m going to use my work calendar for homelife too — I’m hoping this helps me not do so much double-booking and forgetting. Could get messy. Anyway … I’m just not ready. I still have photos in one of my cameras and Christmas boxes stacked sky high. I did start rearranging the living room — and that’s kind of a new year thing to do. Today was a bit crazy — as you probably know. Did sneak the boys away for a final hurah to see Cheaper By The Dozen — cute. Should go to bed — so I can rise and shine, read my scrippers [Taft's term], exercise and be showered and ready to get kids off to school [Thank Heavens.] But .. I am going to stay up just a little longer and blog a list of a dozen holiday highlights in no particular order [tell me you're not surprised!]

1. Snow everywhere — inside and out.

2. Decorative napkins in the mail — thanks Elizabeth!

3. Godiva chocolates at the mall –gotta teach these guys how to NOT chew real chocolate!

4. Just missing Santa Claus — I think Clark was relieved! This is our official picture with the "Santa Will Be Back in an Hour" sign!

5. Cleaning out the toy room. Boys made me give away some favorites too. So glad I can take photos — nicest old lady made these for me when we lived in Chicago — they’ve survived the church bag with all four boys!

6. Bead shopping with Hillary, by sis-n-law. I just love this girl. She is so talented, makes all my jewelry — very inspiring shopping btw.

7. Celebrating 16 years married to this great guy [would do it again] we went on a date to Seattle for some downtown meandering. Cougar and Hillary [brother and wife] were married the day before us, seven years later — they came along — some of my most favorite people in one of my most favorite places!

8. Eating Swedish meatballs at IKEA. I got out just under $200 — not bad! Got to go with my friend Heidi — nice. Got some really cool frames for my new [so-to-be-built] creative studio.

9. Pedicures with Mom. Got a little creative with my toes — something I’m working on for my creativity workshop at BPS — don’t miss it. If nothing else, you’ll get a close up on these piggies.

10. Quick but FUN visit with Kathy and the girls at Apropos. Cool stamp and scrapbook shop in Spokane [Ali is coming in March -- and I'm so signed up]

11. My Christmas present, or the reason I didn’t get any this year.
This is me and the boys saying hello from the back door of our new home!  I’ll keep you posted on the progress.

12. Painting ceramic tiles that will be in my laundry room in the new home!
Taft was way into it! Can’t wait to see them all fired up!

A bit random — but OH, the memories.
OK .. and my New Year’s resolution — figure out how to make a new banner for my blog! Anyone?

Thanks for reading, and good-night!

  1. Love reading your blog. You seem to have a lot of fun in your life! Thanks for sharing your pictures with us. We made paper snowflakes for our windows too–no real snow here in SoCal. Congrats on your new home!
Gotta go to IKEA soon. After seeing your pic I’ve got a jones for some of those Swedish Meatballs with Ligonberry Sauce!
    Have a great week!

  2. love the pics and memories – somehow random makes it more interesting and fun! blog banner idea: how about one crayon and pics of stuff that go with that color? can’t wait to see the new one!

  3. Very cool highlights…great memories! I’m not into the new year yet either…maybe next week? LOL!

  4. I love your blog banner! Why would you change it? But then again, I’m a creature of habit in many ways. Your random memories were fun to read and reminds me that I need to make an IKEA run myself! Have a great week.

  5. Great Stuff Stacy! Congrats on your new home project… very exciting stuff.

  6. Glad you enjoyed the holidays! And I can relate to your new house project – we are celebrating the one-year anniversary of living in the custom reconstruction of our city home. With your full plate of activities, I hope that you have a lot of help and support with design/construction. Wishing you the best with everything you do – you’re wonderful!

  7. Wow Stacy-
You are the most hard working mother of 4 boys I have seen. I only have 2, but they keep us hopping. Here is a class for you on BP. Tell us the secret of being a working mom of 4 boys and how you work out the home/work life transition. I know it a state secret, but I am thinking of returning to my career. I wonder how I will manage it.

  8. Love the highlights of the year…and congrats on the new home!! That’s so exciting!
    Happy Anniversary, too!
Those ceramic tiles are so darn cute. What a great idea!

  9. Stacy, I am so glad you had such a good holiday. Looks like you had lots and lots of fun. I love the handmade tile idea for your laundry room. I think I might have to steal you idea when we build!! Happy New Year!

  10. Hi Stacy,
This is a totally boring comment, but in regards to your planner, almost all planning professionals will tell you that you should only maintain ONE planner. This reduces the risk of ‘missing’ things because it was in your ‘other’ planner. Also make scheduling much easier, helps avoid double-booking. (Can you tell I am a planner junkie??) Good luck!!

  11. Thanks for sharing Stacy. Love reading your blog everyday. It’s actually on of the bright spots in my afternoon.(pssst…don’t tell my boss. I am a confirmed blog-a-holic)

  12. melissa deakin (momteacherwriter) says:

sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas/New Year season!
    the ceramic tiles are such
    a great idea–love it!
    Happy New Year!

  13. Amy Stultz says:

Do you want to trade Christmas presents?
For the second year in a row my dh has blessed me with two brand new shiny white toilet seats. What is up with that???
Come on, I know you want to trade your new house for my seats. ;)

  14. ok. i LOVE those muppet finger puppets!! those are too darn cute!!!
love, love, love the painting tiles idea too!!! :D

  15. I love to get ‘creative’ with my toes as well =0)

  16. If you get a blogger header tip..will you pass my way please. Congratulations on your new home, how exciting. I love the tiles. Doing laundry might be a tad more fun now.

  17. Bernadette Sikorski says:

Stacy-love this bunch of cool stuff you shared!!! I absolutely love the tile idea – have to keep that in the back of my mind for somebody to use that idea. Think that is so cool. Love the whole beading thing too – I used to do that way back when – and everyone laughed at it – now it’s a big thing!!! Who knew – I was before my time.

  18. What a fun highlight of your holidays… great pics – especially that one at Apropos! LOL!
    Fun, fun!

  19. : )
Looks like a season rich with fun and anticipation!

  20. Stacy – LOL – as I’m scrolling through the pictures I instantly recognized the plastic tray and plate full of meatballs from Ikea. Didn’t even need to read the caption! Does that indicate I have a food and shopping issue? Glad you had happy holidays – loved the pictures.

  21. Katie Stuart says:

Just love the tile painting. Can you share the type of paint/tiles/firing method that you used and any other info for doing this at our place in Australia?

  22. I’m cracking up at the “I didn’t do it” T-shirt; my son Connor has the same one! My husband accidentally brought him to school on Christmas picture day in the shirt that says, “It seemed like a good idea at the time.” Whoops! :D
