put some flowers on someone’s porch …

today.

No matter what, promise me you’ll do this.
The flowers can purchased or picked
from your yard, it does not matter. Today is May Day and my mother
taught me that on the 1st day of May, you drop whatever else you think
is most important to do and you share some flowers with a friend. I got
up early this morning and visited a few porches myself and it was the
perfect start to what will otherwise be a crazy day!

NEW Podcast Interview: I had the wonderful opportunity to sit down (about a month ago) with Deann McDaniel at Dishin’ The Digi and talk about life and Photo Freedom. Once again I was reminded  how many awesome women there are in this industry doing their part to grow and promote this amazing hobby of ours –thanks for the great chat Deann. Stop by for a listen.

I told Jenna I had a meeting at 8:00 this morning and that I needed her to come early and then guess what …

We surprised her.

Not only is it May Day, it’s also her  one-year
anniversary working for our family full time. We were reminded earlier
in the week just how well we do without her (not so well) and we were
all standing by the kitchen table when she walked in — we sang and
enjoyed a pancake breakfast together — at least those of us that were
still home and didn’t have to do surgery this morning!

We LOVE you Jenna!!

and .. just in case you don’t know, this Saturday is National Scrapbook Day.

If you haven’t made plans already to do something to celebrate your love of memories, then make plans! And be sure your plans include a stop by the Simple Scrapbooks website. I worked on a little surprise yesterday that will be posted there — BPS is also sending out a FUN email, so watch your inbox for that too.

Saturday is also my Tafty’s birthday — I found  this cute little metal "happy birthday" thing and  I’m going to prop it up on birthday weeks with a pic of the special person on their "day" — how cute is this …

All week I’ve been tucking him into bed and whispering in his ear: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Taftday (yeah …..)

life is good.
make it so.

Happy May Day and Happy 2-more-sleeps-until-his Birthday to your son! (Happy Birth-ing Day to you, too!)

  5. My birthday is on Sunday! Yeah to May-babies! Happy Birthday Taft!

  6. Today, for the 30th May Day in a row, my sister and I will orchestrate a drop-and-dash flower delivery to a neighbor who used to babysit us when we were little. In recent years, my kids have taken over the chore, but without fail, we have never forgotten — even when I was in college, grad school, or living way across the country. It gets done, and it means something!!

  7. What a SO HAPPY post! I’m grinning the entire way through!! I volunteered in my Kdg. son’s classroom today and they were making tussies and filled them with treats to deliver around the school. We have soccer tonight so maybe I’ll make a run to the store for the coaches (they’re both high school girls) and make them smile, along with a few for some neighbors! And how sweet for Jenna. You both are very lucky! ~april

  8. I’m so excited that you celebrate May Day! All my friends look at me crazy when I say Happy May Day! When I was young my mom used to make little May baskets with me and my sister. Then on the morning of May 1st we would sneak around the neighborhood and hang them on all our neighbors doors. It was great fun and became a bit of a game. After years of May Day baskets your neighbors try to catch you in the act. The key was to not get caught. ;-)

  10. Melissa says:

We delivered 16 May Day baskets today. My girls and I made paper flowers with button centers and put them in little plastic cups filled with dirt (brown wrapped candy like snickers). They turned out really cute.

  11. Loved your hanger/chalkboard. Where did you get it? Fabulous!!
Happy May Day to you too!

  12. So sweet. My mother in law just told me of that very tradition today… I love it. It’s a sign of a new season… have a super day Stacy!

  13. I had the best time yesterday, sneaking around different neighborhoods, leaving little flower pots on doorsteps. Thanks for the idea and for helping to bring joy to others.

  14. Hey Stacey, I didn’t know that about May 1st. What a cool thing to do!!!! I’m a bit late, but it might be worth doing anyway. Thanks for a great idea and new tradition.
