Jen Mohler on Flip Flops

As I get ready for summer I am always looking for activities that everyone can be involved in.
This summer I put together a flip flop kit, so that we could all sit down and decorate our favorite summer foot wear.
It was a BIG hit at my house and I’m sure this kind of activity would be a BIG hit at a family reunion or summer gathering of friends where there are both young and old!

My photos might suggest that this is more geared towards girls (my house is full of them), but boys will be interested too  (minus the girlie sparkles and ribbons.) I’m there are decorative items they could use!

Here is what you need to create your own flip flop kit:

  • a container – I picked up mine at the Dollar Store
  • flip flops – Wal-Mart has them for $2 a pair
  • ribbon – 2 yards of coordinating ribbons in a variety of patterns
  • sparkles and gems
  • rub-ons

One evening while the little ones were in bed I created bows for the flip flops. I placed all of the embellishments and ribbons in two baggies and clipped them onto the side of my container. This made it really simple for all of my girls to create fun, super cute flip flops to kick off the summer with!

I keep the flip flop bin by the back door so when the kids and I run out to the back yard we have cute shoes to slip onto our feet. Plus, when we go on a road trip it is easy to grab the flip flop bin and have a place to stash everyone’s flip flops when we put on our tennis shoes and go for a hike.

Have a great time creating one-of-a-kind flip flops and some family summer fun!

FYI … The winner of the picnic caddy that I posted on May 25th is Amy Bailey, with this comment:

Wow, I would love to win this! I am a terrible vacation planner. Please, don’t tell my kids…hopefully they haven’t noticed. My 2 favorite picnic spots are at this beautiful local park we have in town that overlooks a running creek. It has a swinging bridge that crosses the creek, and a nice walking nature trail that leads into the woods. Sometimes we sit and eat our lunch in the grass, watching the wildlife that surrounds us, or sometimes we let the boys fish. It’s a very peaceful spot. The other is whenever we go camping. I love waking up to the smell of freshly brewed camp coffee, made by my sweet husband, and simply eating anything outdoors. So peaceful!

  5. Thanks so much Jen, I’m so excited to have won this. It will definitely help me stay organized. I am just loving all these fun summer ideas you have. I can’t wait to put our flip flops in a bin next to the door. What a great idea!

  6. what a wonderful and creative idea. Wish I would have thought of this when my kids were younger. Jaryd will be 18 in August and we used to always have his birthday party outside here at home. Until he was about 12 the boys would love doing some kind of crafty/creative thing, that would have been great! Great idea for a family reunion!

  7. Super cute flip flops…and toenails!
