Friday FIVE for June 18th

Today is the last day of school.

I’ve looked forward to this day for weeks and now as I finish this post at 5:30am I’m not sure I’m ready. But then, what does it mean to be ready–my children, whom I love more than anything are going to be around more. What’s not to love about that, right?

If the darn computer guy would come today (been waiting for him for three days now) I could make the move to my  upstairs space and begin to adjust my routines and put into place some new plans for productivity. At least I could be ready to make this move when we get back–I’m taking Trey, Taft and Addie on a road trip to Utah in the morning! I’m driving our friend Kelby to EFY (incredibly cool, week-long camp for teens) at BYU. We had plans to take our friend Brittany too, but she has been sick with a Mono-like (chronic fatigue?) virus for over 9 weeks now and it’s breaking my heart that she can’t go. Anyway, Kelby will help me drive and I’m SO looking forward to hanging out and relaxing with Darci and her family (and seeing Cougar and Theron’s families too!)

All this brings me to my Friday FIVE for today.
A rather random, bit still related collection of things for the first day of summer break …

ONE.

Since this is what I’m doing today (packing our bags), Here’s the NEW Pack Your Bags collection from Little Yellow Bicycle. There are so many great lines and collections of coordinated products, but (for me) LYB really nails the concept of bringing together papers, letters, stickers, accents, ribbon, chipboard pieces — it’s all there and it’s impressive. THREE students in Baker’s Dozen will be receiving elements from this collection and they are LUCKY!

Pictured here (obviously) is just a small portion of what is available. I’m partial (as always) to the envelope mini-book kit.

This line is so new, it’s not yet available at Scrapbook.com, but here’s a link to the Traveler line (also very fun!)

TWO.

Can you believe it?
TOMS in my most favorite color (picture me screaming now Waaaaaa!!) I’ve been mulling over options for weeks, trying to decide which new style I like best and finally yesterday …

I saw these.  If you use the coupon code WORLDCUP you can save $5.00 off your order (through July 18th.) If you’ve not heard of TOMS shoes, you need to know that when you purchase any pair of shoes, you also purchase a pair for a child in need in a developing country. This is just so COOL.

THREE.

It’s been a while since I’ve purchased or talked about Little Missmatched Socks. But I have to tell you about two new styles that I’m getting to spruce up my very colorful sock drawer for summer. How about these new Textured Stripes!

Or, these see-thru ones, the  Neon Jelly Anklets What will they come up with next?

FOUR.

I received a really sweet postcard from Lily several weeks ago. She read this post and thought I could use some encouragement, so she sent the most colorful collection of Pilot Latte pens and other fun things from jetpens.com

These pens are SO fun to write with, that I’m wondering why I’ve been limiting myself to black for so long. These now sit in their own little mug on my desk and I’ve started making my daily lists in bright happy colors!
FYI: Jetpens.com has an entire scrapbooking section that is well worth browsing.

FIVE.

And, finally … these. They are called Eco Stars, star-shaped crayons

and I ordered a box for Addie to use in the car. I ordered two additional boxes to have on hand for birthday parties. I hate how traditional crayons get lodged inbetween seats and other hard-to-reach places (on road trips) and I LOVE how these are easy for little hands to grip. They are made with crayons collected by the National Crayon Recycle Program.
Love their tag-line: Play clean and stay GREEN!

And, there you go.
We’re off early in the morning.
Hopefully, I’ll post some of our adventures along the way!

Have a wonderful trip! Travel safely and enjoy every mintue!

  2. Melinda Wilson says:

Stacy, thanks for sharing the Tom coupon! My son wears these and loves them. I ask him if he needed any and of course he does – lol!!!!! His birthday is in August so I might go ahead and take advantage of this. Thanks.
Have a summer with the children! It will be great!

  3. I love the socks…but I’m such a flip flop girl, I’m not sure when I would wear them! Maybe I’ll have to get some Toms, do you wear socks with them?

    • No socks with TOMS and they are surprisingly comfortable. I am totally a tennis shoe girl though — my feet don’t like flip flops for any extended period of time. I wish!

  4. My girls and I got our first pairs (or is it trios?) of Little Missmatched socks last week when we were in Orlando visiting Disney World. They are oh-so-fun, adorable, and CUTE!

One question about the Toms- do they provide a good bit of arch support built in? It looks the pair you’re getting might, and I really need good shoes for my tired ole’ feet. Thanks for the coupon code!

    • Haley,
I wear my TOMS a lot (see my comment above.) They don’t support you like a running shoe or anything, but they are quite sturdy and I’m often surprised how long I can wear them without sore feet!

  5. I have a question hopefully you can answer before you leave tomorrow ;o) I have flat feet and am wondering if TOMS might work for me as a casual shoe. What do you think? I so need a good shoe that doesn’t leave my feet hurting by the end of the day and flip flops just don’t work anymore for me.

    • Juel,

I’d hate to recommend TOMS and not have them work for you, but I will say that at first I bought them because of the enthusiasm I have for their company and the good they are doing in the world. I thought to myself “I probably won’t be able to wear them for long periods of time.” Well, I have been pleasantly surprised. I find them to be very comfortable and while I wouldn’t choose to wear them to an all-day festival or something, I wear mine multiple times a week and love that I can slip them on (similar to flip flops–can’t wear those either!) and go.

Let me know what you do and what you think!

  6. Have a fun and safe trip! Those crayons are really cool.

  7. Julie M. says:

    Stacy,
Savor this day with the kids and revel in the vacation rainbow glow.
My favorite part ? – no more making lunches!

  8. Love this post – COLOR everywhere. I need to order some of those Pilot Latte pens!

  9. Deborah says:

Enjoy your trip, drive safely! Thanks for sharing – loving those gorgeous little crayons. Woohoo – I’m one of the lucky Baker’s Dozen students who was lucky. Looking out for that package sometime soon. Thank you so much

  10. I so love my Tom’s. I first heard of them on your previous blog post about Tom’s. I also ordered them thinking I might not waer them a lot but it was for a good cause, so why not? They are my go-to casual shoe. Fornthose with flat feet, I put an arch support insert on mine & mynfeet are very happy.

  11. OH how I love your Friday Fives posts!!!!

I need to get me some of those socks!! I bought a bunch this winter but need some lighter colors for summer too. :) those crayons are fabulous!! need some of those for my childcare too :)

    HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!!
