scrap by color: BLUE

Edited 7/9/10 at 12:40
And the winner is …

Marty says:

I love blue – it is my favorite color! Something that makes me feel blue is not having something creative in my life. Whenever I ignore this part of me and don’t make the time to play with my sewing machine, scrappy stuff or house decorating projects, I end up feeling blue. Figured that out as a result of my ridiculous pity party yesterday! So today I am determined to remedy that situation – a trip to the paint store on the schedule for this afternoon :) My hubby doesn’t know it yet, but I’ll be spending some time painting this weekend!

3 Cheers for weekend projects involving paint!

email me your address and I’ll send you my blues!

Ok, you’ve waited patiently and I promised I’m not done …

This is why I really LOVE my color bins.
This morning I finished my  Jillian Michaels exercise DVD and decided to “cool down” with some quick scrapbooking. This page has been on my mind, since I took the photo of my camera for this sprinkle post. I printed the 2×2 photos yesterday in anticipation.

All I had to do was grab my blue color bin and start. I was finished (paint and all) in 30 minutes exactly–kids didn’t even miss me.
Obviously, with a monochromatic page “things” move quickly. In fact, I stood in the same spot the entire time–reaching only once for my hole punch!

I never know how pages will turn out, but I adore the process of discovery and the possibilities that exist with this system!

NOTE: If you haven’t scrapbooked a tribute to your camera, add that to your list! And btw, there’s a sneak peek of something coming soon (on this page), can’t wait to tell you more!

Leave me a comment if you want to WIN my BLUES (as seen in the video!)
I’ll select a winner TODAY at noon.

How cute would these BLUE letters (from my sponsor, Benzilla’s Etsy store) be in your blue bin?

  1. Erin Taylor says:

I love your videos… and I love your color bins. Thanks for sharing your layout :-)

  2. Love this blue page!! I would love the chance to win your blue stash.

  3. Stacy, I just recently ‘converted’ my scrapping supplies to be sorted by color and I am having so much fun using all of the great supplies that I forgot that I had PLUS it’s so much easier even if you have two or three bins out. From the moment something new comes into the scrap zone up through cleaning up from a completing a layout it is so much easier and gone is the stress of where to put things, where to find things, and cleaning up is an absolute breeze too! My only regret is not doing it sooner! Thanks for all of your inspiration!

  4. Michelle R. says:

Great video, would love to win!!!

  5. deborah says:

Thanks for getting back to these color videos. Somehow they really inspire me! I know that you probably mostly work at home, but what do you do if you’re going to scrap somewhere else?

    Thanks for the inspiration!

  6. KellyMinMN says:

Hi Stacy, I’ve got 3 boys and use a lot of blue. Thanks for making the color videos and for the chance to win!

  7. Loved the peek at your blue bin! Thanks for sharing!

  8. Renee J. says:

‘Looking at the beautiful blue sky makes me think BLUE. I love your colored bins. Your enthusiasm for scrapping is so contagious; it makes me want to scrap this very moment. Hmmm-how about something BLUE. Thanks, Stacy!!

  9. You are so creative! What would the scrapbooking world be like if your weren’t in it? I don’t even want to think about it! Thanks for following your inner voice.

  10. Kristyn G says:

I’d love to win your blues!

  11. MaryAnn Novakowksi says:

I enjoy your videos and love the idea of your colour bins and in the process of changing my scrapbook room to colours bins too…thanks for the great ideas.
I feel blue when I scrapbook layouts for my oldest grandchild, because her favorite colour is BLUE!
Most girls like pink or purple but not our Brooke, I buy her blue clothes and she loves it, if its any other colour she won’t wear it!
thanks for the chance to win some blue things.

  12. What makes me blue? Hmm… not too much, thank goodness! I do want to say that I’ve been storing my stuff by color for a while now, based on earlier posts you did about sorting by color and IT.SO.WORKS.FOR.ME!!! Blue is a color I don’t really use to much of so I don’t have a lot of it – would LOVE to win some of your purged stash!!!

  13. Jessica says:

Hello, I am blue today because I just moved and all my stuff is still packed away and all disorganized. I guess the bright note is that as I am unpacking, I am going to convert to sorting by color. Thanks for the inspiration!!

  14. Michelle says:

I have so enjoyed the color videos – thanks for sharing! I have 3 boys and could definitely use your “blues”.

  15. Tiffany H says:

Have been enjoying your videos. Please keep making more.

  16. Definitely need too coold down after a Jillian dvd! I love monochromatic pages too. Can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve!

  17. Kris Van Allen says:

what makes me blue? like last night: I SOOOO wanted to make something, knit or crocheted, with some leftover cotton I have, and I spent hours scouring Ravelry and other sources, not coming up with anything. I wanted to so badly, but couldn’t find IT. Whatever IT was. My DH says, “You just can’t see in your mind yet what the yarn wants to be.” He totally gets it. And that does NOT make me blue!

  18. Blue is my absolute favorite color! Thank you for sharing your layout too. I feel inspired today.

Thank you for sharing your color bins. I think this is how I am going to store my supplies in the future. If you get a chance please share what are the dimensions of your bins?

  19. conniemelancon says:

loved the video. What makes me blue? not sure how to answer. I love the color blue and 4 granddaughters have big blue eyes (all a little different shade).

  20. Heather in Tx says:

It doesn’t make me blue, but it’s why I love blue… The beautiful blue ocean off the coast of Costa Rica. And it’s blue sky. It was a whole new shade of blue I’d never seen.

  21. Love the video. I’m excited to see the rest of your colors.

  22. I love blue! Such a steady, calming, sincere color. And I can’t think of a single color that does not go with blue. That may be why I use it so much when I scrapbook :)

That said, I don’t really scrap by color. My paper is sorted by color, but the rest of my stuff is sorted by what it is: ie borders and tags; flower and nature embellishments; seasonal themes. What I’ve got really works for how I think, but I wonder what I would come up with if I did a color based approach.

  23. Love that page about your camera ~ great inspiration for me to make one of my own!

  24. Jennifer says:

I love your videos. You have totally inspired me to reorganize.

  25. I love blue…blue blue blue. I really do need to do an ode to camera, especially now that I have a new one! Thanks for the reminder! Stay cool with your blues!

  26. I have sorted everything by color since GOBI last year and I love it.
Can`t wait to see what you have in your B/W bin:)

  27. JennieB says:

Running out of Weight Watchers fudge bars make me blue:[ I recently organized by color, according to your videos, and just love the way it has freed me from wasting time searching for something.

  28. carol in Seattle :) says:

I love this “scrap by color” series…I’m not quite ready to organiZe that way yet, but with each color you do I get closer and closer!

  29. Laurie T says:

I organized my scrap supplies by color after reading your book and I LOVE it!! It’s so much easier to find things – I’ll never scrap another way – it’s got to be organized by color. In fact, if I buy some fun new thing to put in my stash, I make sure they go in the correct color drawers. :)

  30. I’m going to do it! You have totally inspired me to reorganize my scrap room by color. I’ve been moving in that direction, but after seeing this video – I’m sold!! Blue is absolutely one of my favorite colors, so would love to win the grab bag. Thanks for sharing – you always brighten my day.

  31. What makes me blue is the connotation that blue can mean sad because blue (and green) are my favorite colors. But while I can honestly say there are shades of green that I do not like, I do not think I have ever met a blue that did not catch my eye — I love it — light, dark, grayish, aqua — it is all wonderful.

  32. I love how the color bins make it so easy to narrow down my choices. I thought of you today as I sewed a blue basket liner for my sister’s birthday present. Her house is mostly green and I’m going to tell her that this blue basket is to add some marvelous color – as Stacy J would recommend :))

  33. Desiree says:

oh I’d love to win! I get so excited when I see a new post on your blog. :) Is that bad? LOL

  35. Jennifer says:

Blue is my favorite color. The blue I love best is the last blue of the day, when the sun is setting and the sky seems to glow for a small moment before darkness begins to settle in for the evening.

  36. Heather P. says:

Would that be noon PDT I hope?! :) I sort my papers by color….but not embellishments. I wonder why? I’m definitely going to try monochromatic tho’. Thank you!!!

  37. Christy Miller says:

Oh….hope I’m not too late! I love blues!

  38. Erika Drummond says:

noon your time or mine? Hope I’ m not too late.

“I’ve got the blues.” The Kraft Mac-n-Cheese song was stuck in my head as soon as I opened up your blog!

  39. I love your videos and I love your scrapbook page. Please pick me! I am posting at 11:51 so just in time! :-)

  40. I have the SUMMERTIME BLUES!!!!

Blue skies, blue pool splashes, Blue Angels, bouncy runaway rubber balls, flying frisbees, picnic blankets, blue frozen rocket pops, EVERYTHING red, white and BLUE. Even my swimsuit…EVERYTHING IS BLUE in the summertime!!!!!!!!! And being BLUE makes me HAPPY!!!!!

  41. not that I have a whole lotta stuff, but what I have has now been split into colors and man does it help! Much easier than keeping like with like! So I would love some blue to help with a rather thin folder – seriously, all the colors fit into a box thats 18 inches long 12 inches wide and about 8 inches deep!

  42. Teri Buczkowski says:

I love your color bins. I a planning to set up my own. thanks for all the inspiration and direction.

  43. Another fun video – thanks for the inspiration Stacy!

  44. Ruth Tacoma says:

To be honest….there is not much that makes me blue. I’m a glass all the way full kind of girl! :) Great video. Still thinking on the whole sorting by color thing.

  45. You are soooo motivating, I wish I could whip up a quick layout like you!
I would love to win some blue stuff even though I don´t think I am blue very often!!!

  46. Oh I would love to win! Love your blue page!

  47. i am SO making an ode to my camera page!!!! great idea!! although i don’t organize everything i have by color, i definitely organize my ribbons in jars that way and i LOVE to see the full jars of color. it makes me so happy!!!

  48. Shannon says:

Thanks for the motivation – - I haven’t scrapbooked in ages!!! We will be home tomorrow from a weeks vacation and I am ready with photos in mind!!

  49. Wow! I love it! I am still working on getting my color bins in order but I am so happy with how it is working out for me so far. Thanks a million for sharing!!!!

  50. I was hoping you’d be posting a blue video soon! What a treat!

Blue is my absolute favorite color :) So much so that my husband teases me that when he was deciding between enlisting in the Army or Air Force that I made him go Air Force because of the blues uniform! LOL!

Thank you so much for doing these videos – like so much of your process that you have shared it is making me take a step back and re-evaluate my own aproach to my creative outlets. I haven’t implimented this specific idea yet, but the more and more I process through the concept the more it is apealing to me. I find that my current stash is very heavily weighted towards “theme-y” embelishements (and papers too, though not quite as bad). And I find that I am still very attracted to them, but I am also finding that my style is slowly developing toward a little more sophisticated, simple, clean style. So I am trying to pull out the themed items that I still do love, but feel that I may grow beyond in not too long. Perhaps when I find myself at the natural conclusion of that process I will have also cleared enough space to start deviding some things up by color :)
