Hey Family (from the Caribbean)

This post is for all of my faithful blog readers, but more especially for my family as this appears to be the most cost-effective way of updating you. We are sitting in a rare Wi-Fi free zone at the Cheers bar in Antigua. We must be back on the cruise ship in one hour. We’ve had a delightful day and for the first time since leaving Florida had clear skies. We took a tour with Lawrence (of Antigua) a very nice man of seventy who drove us around and enlightened us with information about the life and culture of this beautiful island. We stopped for a zip line tour of the rain forest canopy (FUN!)

I had selected 11 pictures to share, but it seems the connection I have is rather lame.

This one photo will have to suffice for now.
Yesterday, we left St. Thomas on a catamaran for St. John to do some snorkeling. Unfortunately, the storms following Thomas have left the seas heaving and the water murky. The most famous Trunk beach was closed all together, so we ended up here — we did see shadows of a few sting rays and some tropical fish, but the cloudy water made it hard to really enjoy the experience.

We are having a very good time.
I’m getting LOTS of restful sleep and making my way through Jane Eyre (I feel I need to have another classic under my belt!)

Love you all!
(Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa)

  1. Well the water MAY be murky, but it is soooooo turquoise and looks so inviting! Sitting here in the chill of fall, contemplating having to fix dinner for my brood, I’m terribly envious.

  2. A picture is worth a thousand words! Oh, the view! I’m envious too.

  3. Have fun Stacy…

  4. I went to Antigua for our honeymoon we stayed in Jolly Beach Resort I LOVE that island!

  5. The view is gorgeous and yes, the Atlantic during hurricane season (and close to before and after) can just stink. I’m sorry Thomas was out there giving you murkey waters and cloudy skies. Hope your way home is better.

  6. My one and only cruise so far had murky water, high, choppy waves, and rain the entire trip. But we still managed to have a good time. Hope the weather gets better for you.

Sounds like you are having fun. I too am reading Jane Eyre (my second time). You will love it!

  8. Girl…murky or not, that water is gorgeous! I LOVE the blue of the caribbean waters!! And, hey…if you are anywhere near Jacksonville when you pull back into port in FL, I would LOVE to meet you in person! xo

  9. wow it looks gorgeous, soak up all that sun and rest to be had!

  10. Sorry the weather has not been cooperating — but on the plus side, you don’t have to feel guilty for napping every day instead of running around!

  11. Beautiful-thanks for sharing

  12. Gorgeous! I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying yourself.

  13. Brings back memories – that’s where we went for our honeymoon 15 years ago!!! Enjoy!

  14. Relax, have a good time, and enjoy Jane Eyre. I read it about 5 years ago and thought “How did I not read this in high school??!”

  15. The water sure looks beautiful and inviting from here!! The picture is like a postcard!! I have to say… I am totally envious of you guys right now!! lol. Hope the rest of your trip is fun & relaxing!!

  16. Sounds fun! We were in Cuba (we’re Canadian, so we can go there) last spring and got to snorkel, so grateful the water was nice. Any day with heat and sun away from home is a good holiday day :)

Great picture. It makes me want to go lay in the Sun…. Oh its to cold here… darn… Anyway, have a great time.

  18. I am living vicariously through you, looks beautiful to me!

  19. St. John is one of my most favorite places in the whole world (how can it NOT be, what with 75% of the island preserved as a National park). My dh and I tendered onto St. John at 6am and literally watched the sun rise there. Ahhh! We also had a Caribbean beach TOTALLY to ourselves for two hours (Solomon’s beach). We fell asleep on the beach and (gulp!) woke up to discover we had plenty of company. Clothing optional company (gulp gulp!) Didn’t know this about Solomon’s beach but will NOT forget for future reference, lol. My mom also got bitten by a seemingly friendly cat on St. John and had to get a tetanus shot from the ship’s doc. Oh my, the adventures of travel.

  20. Looks beautiful. I can’t believe the water is so blue. Hope your having a great time and thanks for the update.

  21. SO Beautiful!!!!!!!!! Wish I were there!

  22. What a beautiful place – all that lush green against the turquoise water – sigh. Maybe some day….

  23. Your photo is gorgeous! My first snorkeling experience was similar to yours, except in Key West. The water was very choppy and murky. We really didn’t see much of anything.

However we are blessed to be stationed in Hawaii now, so we are able to snorkel quite a bit. I love to snorkel now.

  24. and that one picture says it all doesn’t it? relax. and have fun.

  25. Sounds like fun! Can’t wait to see more photos so I can live vicariously through you!!! Jenn

  26. love, love, LOVE Jane Eyre. I think I have read it three times, and each time in comes flooding back to me how much I enjoy this book.

  27. Beautiful colors in your photo. Sounds like you are enjoying your time away. Can’t wait to see more pictures.

  29. the color of the water is amazing, wish we had that in so. cal.

  30. Hi Stacy. I hope you are having lots of fun and relaxing – you sure need a bit of R&R right now! I just wanted to let you know that I am having Stacy-blog withdrawal and am really missing your posts! I never realised you were so ingrained in my after-school-drop-off routine!! LOL. Enjoy this peaceful time with Geoff and come back refreshed! Ali

  31. Jane Eyre is the BEST story! I love that book. Good for you for reading it!

Sigh….I miss the Caribbean so much! If I could live there permanently, I would!

The last few days I’ve been reading old stuff on your blog. You inspire me in oh so many ways!!! I’ve been searching for a post you did once about how you picked the colors for your house. I know you had a turntable (maybe?) from Sticks that had all your happy colors in it – was that where it started? I did find the one with your dining chairs. It was maybe around the same time. It was a LONG time ago, but I can’t find that post and have a few people that need to see it. Can you help me?

  33. The photo looks beautiful. I’ve always wanted to do a canopy tour too! Continue to enjoy!

  34. The water looks absolutely beautiful to me. My DH and I went on a trip in August (without the kids) to celebrate 15 years of marriage – it was wonderful. Have a fantastic time!

  35. Wow, sooo blue, amazing!
