Friday FIVE for Thanksgiving Weekend 2011

It’s Wednesday night. Google’s Thanksgiving doodle is up and we’ve eaten and cleaned up dinner. The wonderful feeling of “long weekend” is settling in. Geoff and my dad are re-watching the Republican debates in my office (to Geoff’s credit, he just loaded the dishwasher and wiped off all the counters.) My mom is taking a much needed break. I *think* she’s in the bathroom reading magazines :) She arrived late this afternoon and jumped right in, fixing dinner! Trey is on the couch with me–other end, playing “Asphalt” on his iTouch. Addie and Rachel are at the puzzle table, looking through pictures and playing with Photo Booth on Clark’s laptop. Clark is back and forth between the girls and the debate re-run. Taft is downstairs playing Wii, Chase is at Safeway working and I’m trying to put the final touches on this post that I’ve been writing since yesterday. My pain meds are messing with my vision. I’m super fuzzy and I am having one heck of a time concentrating and not dozing off.

Anyway, I wanted to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving with a fabulous Friday FIVE …

ONE.

Just for FUN … FREE Thanksgiving coloring pages from Life is Good. Print some off for the kids or grandkids. She doesn’t know it yet, but Addie is going to color this one for me, for our 2011 Thanksgiving scrapbook.

Here are links to the “Thankful Turkey” and “Sweet As Pie” coloring pages:

Thanksgiving-Thankful

Sweet-as-pie

The rest are HERE.

TWO.

Love the website, They Draw & Cook. Nate and Salli are a brother & sister design team that started illustrating recipes on a whim one day and have just recently published their first book.

Spend just a few minutes exploring and you’ll discover just how addicting illustrated recipes, like “German Pancakes” can be. Be sure to visit the shop page too, where you can purchase the brand NEW book and enlarged prints and canvases of some of the recipes.

THREE.

I’ve used Catalog Choice in the past to cancel unwanted catalogs online, but now you have the option of ordering “Mail Stop” envelopes that you simply fill up with junk mail and then return so that someone else can process your stop-mail requests!

If you’re not able to hit the stores on Black Friday (like me) you could spend some time un-selecting unwanted catalogs that bombard our mailboxes this time of year! Learn More Here.

FOUR.

Here’s a sneak peek of some Christmas-giving goodness headed your way. I adore these colorful fingers-free gloves, even though they are a tad expensive —– they’re from designer, Kate Spade. Where else are you going to find something with this attention to design, detail and quality?

FIVE.

  8. Danielle_nl says:

We don’t have Thanksgiving here in Holland but I still want to wish you a happy thanksgiving. Enjoy the family and get well soon!
And I also want to thank you for being such an inspiring and colorful person :)

  9. Hi Stacy, thank you for your Friday 5 and Happy Thanksgiving. I wanted to use the BPC gift code for an international order of Compendium Journals, but this is not applicable.

I don’t think this is fair – given that as a customer I already have to take the huge shipping burden. I am afraid they are not getting my business. So yes I admit they have great products, but this policy needs to be rethought in my opinion.

    Take care

  24. Thank you for this article. I will also like to express that it can possibly be hard when you find yourself in school and just starting out to initiate a long credit rating. There are many scholars who are just trying to endure and have a protracted or good credit history can occasionally be a difficult point to have.

  25. Happy Thanksgiving! Those are fabulous gloves–so cute!

  26. I absolutely love when you do these “five” posts, always such interesting products!

  27. Thanks Stacy! Just did some Christmas shopping at Compendium. Heal completely and enjoy your time with your family.

  28. Hi Stacy, I wanted to send you a little message. This weekend I was digging thru my boxes of stuff still packed from moving last fall, and I found the Compendium book you kindly sent me a few years ago in a give away. The book was about looking forward 5 years. At the time I was in a bad way. I had no idea, but my life was about to get much, much worse. But I really appreciated that book and how it at least allowed me to try and change my perspective a bit and take a bit of a longer view.

I was just thinking about this, this weekend, that this is the first time since 2006 I have enjoyed Thanksgiving. In 2007 I found out I was losing my job, and things just went downhill from there.

My life is not anywhere near back to where it was. But since you sent me that book, I entered and completed graduate school, trained for a new profession, and graduated last Jan (LAST Thanksgiving I had finals coming up! No holiday when you have grad school finals due in 3 weeks). And in a profession where people sometimes still go a couple years before getting that first job, I got a job offer in Feb and started in March.

I am still in recovery from those years. I am not sure how I will ever recover financially. The best I can do is start over, which I have done. Thanks for sending me that book. Thanks to you and Compendium for giving me some hope in a very dark time. My 5 years are not up! I have a couple more years until I get to the 5 year mark of the book. But at least, for the first time in 5 years, I had a Thanksgiving that was truly a rest, and I could go Christmas shopping with some money for presents, and I am enjoying my holidays. I have money saved. I have an office with my name on the door.

That book was really great. I am glad I have it and that I could re-read what I wrote in it those long years ago.

    • Hey friend! It’s so good to hear from you and I so appreciate the update. SO much can happen in 5 years — it’s true. You are a fighter and I’m proud of you for not giving up, even when life seemed so bleak.

      I’m grateful for YOU.
      sj

  29. Karen Schmidt says:

Sounds like you had a great relaxing Thanksgiving with lots of help.. My family and I had a great relaxing one with shopping on Friday. I got some good deals. Thanks for the great ideas.

  30. I may only be able to see his feet, but I’m already in love with Boogie Monster. :) Thanks!

Heading over for my 35% off…you’re such a giver this fine weekend!

  31. made the yummy pancakes for my son this morning he loved them! Thank you for the link to the super cute site.
Love Compendium and will be browsing their site too.
    Happy Holidays
    Donelle

  32. I pray you heal quickly, yet are able to enjoy your down time, soak up some family time, rest and maybe read something wonderful.
I love the recipe site; very cool. The gloves are colorful, fun, and would definitely perk up any cold winter day.
I’m off to check out the seven book. Compendium books are amazing. Thanks for the coupon code!

  33. The United kingdom was the initial country laid across the lap of fiscal austerity. Conservatives in Britain argued that government deficits could possibly be solved by slashing manifeste spending quickly and drastically. They got what they needed, such as a particularly drastic set of cuts affecting the country’s inadequate and unemployed. But in spite of the cuts, Britain’s economy hasn’t recovered.

  34. Yet not just are austerity designs failing to rescue wayward nations, they’re leading to even higher damage.

  35. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you, for the link to Catalog Choice! My catalogs have gotten completely out of control. I used Green Dimes in the past but the company, sadly, went out of business. I am clicking over to Catalog Choice right now.
