TED Talk on Happy Families

I really enjoyed listening to this TED talk and thought I’d pass it on …

Bruce Feiler shares three things Happy Families do:
1. Adapt all the time.
2. Empower the kids.
3. Tell their story.

I hope you’ll watch and listen for the third of Mr. Feiler’s 3 points.
I have a hunch you’ll like what he says and that you’ll feel validated in your passion for memory keeping.

By the way, Bruce Feiler is the author of a book, called The Secrets of Happy Families and he mentions in this talk a study done at Emory University. Just thought I’d save you time, if like me, you tend to Google people and things to verify what you’ve heard!

    FANTASTIC! Thanks

  3. Thanks for sharing this Stacy! I’m going to use it and pass it along. I had already saved his article, “The Stories That Bind Us” in the New York Times March 15, 2013. It was so GREAT!

I love TED and this was great. Thanks for sharing it. I don’t believe in coincidence. I think i was supposed to hear this. I have been struggling with some things of late and have been praying about it. At several points during this talk I felt like God was saying, “listen, I’m talking to you.” I’ll be listening again. Thanks again.

On a different note, I had several email conversations with Michelle at BP due to some technical issues with an eBook. She was very helpful and stuck with me through my tech ignorance. I really appreciate her help.

    • Christine,
I don’t believe in coincidence either. If you’re praying for something, then you just have to pay attention. The answers will come — for me, in lots of different ways! So glad to hear you had a good experience with Michelle. I love her — and trust me, I’ve trained her well (when it comes to patience with the tech-challenged!) Thanks for reading my blog.

Hi Stacy, WOW – fascinating and definately some ideas here I am going to try with my family. I have always believed it is important for my kids to have a sense of where they have come from, of those who went before – was great to hear that this has benefits. Family Meetings and Morning Checklists here we come! Love TED Talks – thanks for sharing this one! Narelle

    • I’ve been doing morning checklists for ages, but hearing this re-invigorated me and my kids are doing GREAT (again!) We need to improve our family meetings and we’re going to work on that.

  6. Thank you for sharing this Stacy. I completely agree with the advice given in this TED talk. I think it is so important to remember that our goal as parents is to raise independent adults, so I really appreciated hearing Mr. Feiler mention that. Flexibility and communication with an understanding of the importance of family, that’s the way my husband and I are trying to raise our children. I love that my passion for scrapbooking is a great medium to help with the third part!
