Winner!

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Wow, it sounds like we all have cleaning up to do! I have so many cleaning projects planned for when the kids are back in school! The winner of Keri Smiths new book is Mel H. who said: “Well, I think I have a winner.  My basement and lower level half bath flooded last Thursday with sewage…so I have a destroyed bathroom (had to strip tile to the sub-floor (which has to be replaced)) and then an entire destroyed closet, missing carpet in 1/3 of the basement family room and no ceiling for 1/2 the room…and everything in the basement had to be moved, emptied from wet boxes and salvaged as best we could.  I know where nothing is..but thankfully, we only lost one or two small things and no one was injured…but boy, is it a MESS!”

Good luck getting that cleaned up! It sounds like you need a break! Enjoy the book!

Mel, please send me an email with your address so I can get this out to you! allison@stacyjulian.com

Update.

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Kayce is back in town.
This is a very good thing.
She has already fixed the error messages on various pages of my site, and she is now tackling the problem that is preventing me from posting photos. I’ve decided that I don’t really want to blog, if I can’t blog with photos, so I’ve just taken the week off.

I’ve used my time to relax (this is very important for me right now) and to implement this into my new office and routine.
So far, so good.

I’ll be back later this week.
And … I miss you too!

“makes me happy” week.

Monday, June 28th, 2010

It’s *my* first day of summer (here, at home.) I don’t have to wake anybody up or get anyone off to anywhere early.
I still have two unpacked suitcases, huge piles of laundry and lots catching up to do, but that’s OK, a lot can be accomplished in one day.

What you really need to know is that I’m hosting the Write. Click. Scrapbook. blog this week.
In an effort to save my sanity, I’m declaring it “makes me happy” week here.
Each day I’ll share just one or two things that are making me happy right now.
Hopefully, after you’ve checked in here, you’ll click over to WCS for more!

Yesterday I opened several boxes that arrived while I was away. One of them had three copies of the summer 2010 issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today. This is because I am writing a series of articles for them. I have not written for a magazine since the demise of Simple Scrapbooks and I have to tell you that seeing my article in print was so FUN.

This magazine makes me happy!
It is printed on beautiful, high quality paper and the design is light and airy.
You can download an e-copy of this issue for FREE or subscribe on their website.
You can also leave me a comment telling me whether you read or have ever read this magazine (YES or NO) and I’ll select one random comment (on Friday, July 2nd) to send an issue to.

After all my years of scrapbooking, it still makes me happy to create a little mini-book in an evening. This little 4×4 scrapbook is pictured in my article. It’s a collection of personality snapshots dedicated to Addie and it’s housed in a mini-book from Close To My Heart. The pattern paper is from this Basic Grey collection.

Here are a few more images …

Oh, and the fact that YOU read my blog, also makes me very happy.
See you over at Write. Click. Scrapbook.

Today …

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Today, I’m running around like a crazy women.

Today, I managed to post  Sprinkle No. 21

Today, I attended three phone meetings from my van (go iPhone!)

Today, is the open house for the new Spokane Valley ENT surgery center. I’m leaving right now to make sure the chair in the waiting room are arranged like I like them!

Clark16

Today is this boy’s last day of being 16. He will never be 16 again.

Note: All I have eaten today is an apple, a Walker’s shortbread cookie, a half a bag of organic popcorn (from World Market) and a gigantic handful of Jelly Bellies. I think I’ll add to this list a bunch of hors d’oeuvres at the open house.

Today, I am happy to simply attempt to keep up.

midweek muse: memories

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

name: stacy julian
passion: memories and stories
cause: women with abundance
life work: unleash the potential in others to do good and amazing things

IMG_4452

Here’s the deal: It’s not so much the things that Seth Godin writes that I love. Its the stuff that happens in my head and heart when I read the stuff that Seth Godin writes (follow?)

I had one of those ’showers of inspiration’ (literally) in the shower this morning. I’m preparing to fly to Houston to the Mom 2.0 Summit tomorrow. The resistance (voice of my lizard brain–a reference to Seth’s book, Linchpin) is trying to tell me that I’m not “enough” to hang with the three other women on my panel. Stupid resistance.

I feel I should have some amazing cause, like impoverished or disadvantaged women in third-world countries — and certainly that is an amazing cause. I love to see people become activists for foundations they believe in and certainly there are foundations I believe in and support. I’ve wondered about becoming more vocal, raising my voice to defend, advocate or benefit a worthy movement. But, what I just realized this morning (thanks to Seth, in a round about way) is that I do have a cause. My cause is women with abundance.

Let’s see if I can explain.

If you have ever wielded a camera (and I know you have) to capture some minuscule detail of your life, or stared into the face of an unidentified person in a photo (likely also true) then I know you have sensed not only the importance of your family lineage, but also the nearly universal web of connection that stems from memories and stories. I know from years of personal practice that authentic scrapbooking gives rise to a greater sense of awareness that in turns leads to more gratitude. When we truly understand all that we have been given we are more willing to be accountable to intuitive nudges and inspiration for making a difference in a very unique way.

So, my passion is helping *primarily* women excavate meaning from their memories and use this meaning to put themselves on the path of personal enrichment that spills over into the lives of others.

What?

If I can help other women who lead abundant lives, more clearly recognize both their privilege and their potential then the great spirit of the universe (which opposes lizard brain resistance) will take hold in their hearts and lead them onto a greater cause — one that they are destined to promote.

Memories are immensely powerful and I am now prepared to sit on a panel with other esteemed women and say with humility (and pride) I am a scrapbooker and I have a cause.

Go me.

p.s. check out the other three women on my panel: Tracy Clark, Donna Novitsky, Katherine Center and please, share your thoughts. What can I share at this summit for you?

home and happy.

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

So, happy, happy, happy to be home.

I’m getting old, so I’m much more willing to take things (like trade show recovery) slow. Don’t forget S-L-O-W is my word. I got home late Tuesday night and took ALL day Wednesday off. Did not get up early (7:00 instead of 5:30), did not unpack, did not turn on my computer. Did read, play and fingerpaint with Addie, did go to restorative yoga, did take Taft to the orthodontists, did make dinner and did watch American Idol with my family.

My husband’s ENT group (Spokane Valley Ear, Nose and Throat) has been building a new surgery center since last May. The building is done and open for business and the open house is scheduled for February 23rd. Geoff has wanted me to help him arrange furniture in the waiting rooms, purchase art for the walls and add decorative touches, etc… throughout. My answer has been “after CHA …” and so Thursday I made good on a promise to focus on him and this new surgery center — it really is such a beautiful building and we worked on it ALL day long. I was so tired, but very pleased with the progress we made. We’ll be painting two accent walls today and hopefully we’ll also find two tables that I have pictured in my mind. I really wish I had taken some ‘before’ pictures, because darn it, I’m GOOD. Even just moving chairs and end tables around and bringing in greenery here and there has made such a difference. I can’t wait to finish up!

I can hardly believe that Library of Memories starts in less than a week — SO EXCITING! I am eager to dive in this year and let it consume me.

So, before I get too busy and miss my chance, I thought I’d share a FEW of the products that delighted me at CHA this year. I haven’t been to trade show in over two years and I had so much fun seeing and talking to industry friends. I really, truly and most sincerely enjoyed walking around and feeling the excitement of innovative products, people and ideas.

If you have not yet had a chance to listen to the Paperclipping Roundtable, then you might not know that I am going to be a rotating panelist with Noell and Izzy’s team, that includes Nancy Nally and Ana Cabrera. I’m very happy about this. I have missed the industry community that was a part of Simple Scrapbooks magazine and I have been very impressed with Paperclipping and Scrapbook Update, so I’m joining in to see what I can learn and what I can contribute. If you click on the link above you can listen to the roundtable show that “we” (Izzy really) recorded from the Hyman’s hotel room. It was FUN and since my very short lists are very short, so — I recommend you visit Paperclipping and Scrapbook Update to explore some of the videos and links posted there as well.

TWO Paper Lines I LOVED.

(from among ALL the paper lines I loved)

BG_basics

BASICS from Basic Grey
This is a line of lines, ledgers, dots, grids and more. Cannot wait to get my hands on these versatile papers and make a special place in my paper files where they will live (forever.)

MME_LushBrown

LUSH by My Mind’s Eye
So, this is obviously more than a line of paper. It is a ‘by color’ collection of fabulous and usable products. Lush comes in other colors like black, red, blue, green and pink (I think.)

ONE *NEW* tool that I am going to OWN.

(and I’m not even a tool girl!)

THE CINCH by We R Memory Keepers (filmed by Oh My Crafts)
I am super excited about what will be my book-making tool of choice. I love round holes and I’m totally sold on the feature that allows me to choose how many round holes I will create — I sort of ‘accidently’ made a video with the girls at Oh My Crafts. I guess I just got a little excited and couldn’t help myself.

There’s more … much, much more, but I’ve got to go jogging and finish my unpacking (seriously.)
Have a wonderful Saturday.

And the winner is…

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Hi this is Allison!
IMG_0975
I have worked with Stacy (off and on) since the very beginning of Simple Scrapbooks magazine.

Stacy asked me to pick the lucky winner of last week’s GurglePot giveaway. I used Random.org to help me select post number 398.

If you are Kari D. and wrote this comment: The crickets on a summer night after the kids are in bed and the house is quiet.  Ahhh…. peace!, then you need to email me (allison@stacyjulian.com)

Stacy and I had so much fun reading all your comments!
I can’t tell you how many times I said, “oh I love that sound too.”
Some of favorite sounds made me laugh and some of them made me cry… Here are a few of my favorites.

  • my favorite sound is the AIM on my phone going off. It means that I get to talk to the hubby from Iraq for an hour or so. It’s awesome.
  • I love the sound of heels on a hardwood floor.  The cloppier the sound the better!!!
  • I love the sound of running water- a waterfall, creek, ocean waves, even swimming pools and I will add the gurgle pot.  How cool you can hear the gurgle on your link!  Water always reminds me of quiet relaxing times and a form of rebirth.
  • My favorite sound is the sound of my dad’s voice on his answering machine.  He passed away last October 27…and I miss him so much.  My stepmom gave us their old answering machine and it has my Dad’s voice leaving a message…
  • As a labor and Delivery nurse I would have to say the first cry of a new baby!
  • While trying to figure out my favorite sound, I came about it from another angle. What if I were deaf … which sounds would I miss most? The top two were 1) my kids voices and 2) music. They are such a part of me, I feel I wouldn’t be complete without them.
  • My favorite sound?  the sound of the continuous beat of my heart.  Yes, I am a breast cancer survivor!!
  • Oh my goodness, the sound of that gurgle pot made the family dog, Cookie, run around like a crazy dog!  I think I may just have to order one for the fun value!  My favorite sound I heard again today.  My husband playing a game with our teen daughters.  you could hear the gigles and belly laughs all the way downstairs.  I love to hear my family laugh.

Thanks for leaving your comments and a big thank you to GurlglePot for sponsoring our giveaway this week!

Kari D. send me an email with your address!
