1 pound of food for your good mood.

Kayce and Stacy and the hot dog hot rod.

I was raised in the 1970s. This means among other things that I ate a LOT of Oscar Mayer hotdogs. Today I rode inside one of the famed wiener mobiles (there are six total) and it was so FUN. We sang the B-O-L-O-G-N-A  song and learned about the application process to become a hot-dogger. You must ‘cut the mustard’ — be college graduate with a good driving record and one full year to dedicate to road tripping?

Oscar Mayer, as mentioned in our little movie is behind a really cool movement to help feed hungry Americans. Essentially, you use your good mood to ‘purchase’ one pound of food. You can learn more about at goodmoodmission.com

I’m learning a ton of good stuff here at Mom2.0 — more coming soon!

The Weekend Report.

IMG_0468

Woke up to the remains of Chase’s famous brownies — evidence of a good Sunday afternoon.

And the rest of the  weekend was equally wonderful. Friday night was the homecoming football game at Central Valley High School; it rained ALL day long. Clark and Chase braved the weather, but the rest of us stayed home and watched Monsters vs. Aliens. I had planned to sit and “watch” while working on my FBLA presentation, but I wrapped myself in a down throw and was WAY too comfortable to do anything but watch, and drift into and out of sleep.

Saturday was an absolutely perfect fall day. The little boys and I cleaned off the front porch and redecorated. I am a bit behind on the Halloween thing this year, so we put up some minimal decorations inside. Geoff and Clark cleaned out the garage, took a trip to The Goodwill and winterized the yard — I love the feeling of working together as a family. It generally takes some serious effort to get everyone on board, but then you can just feel the energy and everyone ends up feeling great. I ran errands in the afternoon and then dove right into preparations for a short, but intense party that was the first stop of a progressive Homecoming dinner. We had 10 couples at our house from 6:00 to 6:45 for appetizers and pictures. Several of the parents showed up with cameras too, so it was CRAZY!

Clark and Kelby.

I took only a handful of not-so-good pics with my flash as I had arranged for my friend and photographer Keri to come and be the official “photographer.” And trust me when I say she worked it. She was out on the deck with diminishing light attempting to capture individual couples and all the various “groups.” There is no way I could have kept the flow of things (parents + 20 couples + appetizers) while attempting to take pictures too — I’m so glad she was there!

I can’t wait to see her pictures — I’m going to set up a Shutterfly share site for sharing the photos Keri took. This way all the girls and parents can share too.

Near the end, as Keri was finishing up inside, I overheard one of the boys comment, “my date started getting ready at 10:00 am this morning–I didn’t even get up until 11:30. She looks a lot better than I do though!”  It really was a delight to see everyone all dolled up and excited for the big event.

I waited up for Clark to come home and enjoyed as many details as he could muster.

Yesterday, I taught the Relief Society lesson, the topic was unselfish service — so good and needed in today’s “me” world.  I got up early to make final preparations. I had good intentions for a Sunday post, which I would have written on Saturday night, but I chose to work on my FBLA presentation instead (It finally started coming together). I thought about posting after church, but opted for a nice long “selfish” nap instead!

If you haven’t peeked yet, there is a new *sprinkle* posted on the sprinkles page. Last night as I was snuggling on the daybed in Addie’s room with Addie, Trey and Taft piled on top and around me, I suddenly remembered a song my mother used to sing to me — I honestly don’t think I’ve sung it since (maybe) Chase was a baby. Anyway … I did pretty well remembering  most of the words, but I came downstairs and looked it up on You Tube.

Here’s Natalie Cole singing Paper Moon.

I had forgotten the canvas sky & muslin tree, but nailed the rest.

Midweek Meet + Little Missmatched Socks!

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

OK. I’m super excited about ‘Midweek Meet’ –a feature that will allow me to introduce you to other readers and interesting people that have crossed my path. Today, we meet Mamma Dawn, owner of The Floured Apron, in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

Dawn1

Dawn’s story came to me through her daughter, Reyanna who faithfully reads my blog.

“My mom is a cute 56-year-old woman who owns a bakery in Colorado. She’s affectionately known in her small town and to her 7 grandchildren as Mama Dawn.

Everyday, Dawn dons a bakery hat and wears a long “mom” dress, that Reyanna describes as baby-doll-esque T-shirt dress along with cute colorful socks. To keep her comfortably on her feet all day, she opts for Merrell brand Mary-Janes (and a floured apron, of course.)

Not too long ago, Dawn was in need of some new colorful socks and mentioned this to her daughter.

“Mom, you NEED to try Little Miss Matched socks — you will LOVE them!”

Reyanna continues, Mom said she didn’t want to buy socks online, but alas, we could not find anything cute in local stores.
So, she …did it.

She purchased EIGHT sets of Little Miss Matched socks and now has 24 socks to mix and match and wear as she pleases. And she does LOVE them.

Reyanna ends with, “I’m not sure of many people who can pull off a dress, Mary-Janes and mismatched socks other than you and my mom!”

If you live in Pagosa Springs or are planning a trip close by, stop by and say hello to Dawn. Tell her Stacy sent you and ask to see her socks!

OK, so I’m already wearing my mismatched socks, but I suddenly have the urge to flour up my apron and bake something yummy.

Actually, I’m headed to a special yoga class tonight with the celebrated Seane Corn I’m a bit nervous, since I haven’t done yoga since the first of August. I miss it terribly … hoping tonight will get me back in the “flow.”

Friday FIVE for August 28th (edited)

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Summer is winding down and September is just around the corner, so my Friday FIVE is dedicated to some fun back-to-schoolish items and opportunities. Enjoy!

Cs_pbj_spreader_2

ONE. Make good ole PB&J with just one handy utensil. Cool, eh? I only wish it could come with a NO sticky-jam mess guarantee — my sweet Chase leaves a jam trail. Learn more about the Peanut Butter and Jelly spreader, here.

Sonic Limeade

TWO. My next pick is not a product, but an opportunity. It's called Limeades For Learning and I think it's cool. Sonic (as in the fast food chain) will donate up to half a million dollars to teachers'  projects. All we have to do is order any drink and vote for the project you believe in. I take each of my boys out for a day of school shopping (started yesterday with Clark) and one or more of them invariably chooses Sonic for lunch.

THREE. Found these very fun and unique pencil sharpeners in the September issue of Parents Magazine. I cannot wait to explore MORE, the Green Heart store online — very cool stuff.

FOUR.  Number four is another opportunity. The core of creativity and effectual learning is curiosity. Generally we know this, but it's not often that we really act on it …

George with Books

I happen to LOVE Curious George, because for me he is so full of curiosity. Sometime ago, on the Curious George website I found a printable PDF that says "I'm Curious About …" I HOPE you'll print this file ( Download George_curiosity ) and give one to your children (or grandchildren) or to a group of friends and let them fill it out. YOU need to fill one out too! When you take the opportunity to recognize your current curiosities and commit to them by writing them down, all kinds of good things start to churn in your sub-conscious. Besides that, you end up with a record of where you are in your personal quest for learning. Curiosity unleashes creativity  and we all need more of that!

FIVE. Kids aren't the only people who can ramp up for September, get organized and figure out ways to manage things better. My last pick is the new THINGS software for Mac. I installed Things just under a week ago and I am working on implementing it into my life. I will undoubtedly still use my physical notebooks, but I think I've finally found a way to help me stay on top of more "things" more of the time.

With Evernote helping me capture and organize and Things helping me prioritize and accomplish, I'll soon be left without excuses.

NOTE: There is also a THINGS iPhone app that will sync with your Things program and allow you to work on and track your productivity on the go.

Adornit Blog Hop + Give Away

Friday, July 31st, 2009

I am so intrigued with the blog-o-sphere and all the interesting connections and ideas that are available to us these days. And today, you have a chance to go exploring, learn more about one of our great scrapbooking manufacturers, meet some new people and possibly win some great stuff — are you ready?

Today, I am one stop on a Blog HOP and all the fun starts here.

IMG_9437

This is a sneak peak of a SUPER QUICK page I made with a brand new kit that Georgana and the team at Adornit created for the Big Picture Scrapbooking annual Take August Off promotion that starts next Thursday, August 6th.
IMG_9439

It is bright and happy and fun and includes two sheets of these little letters that I absolutely adore …

IMG_9440

and BUTTERFLIES — not just any butterflies, but two-dimensional super-cool butterflies that pop right up off your page.

IMG_9429

Last summer on a sunny afternoon, Taft came running inside to say "Mom, come quick and look what I found … and bring your camera! He wanted to show me two little mushrooms that were growing in the grass right behind our mailbox. Do you know how grateful I am that I'm a camera-wielding scrapbooking mom? I know we take too many pictures and sometimes we weary our children with pleas to "look at Mom" and smile, but in the end, they know that we will STOP and smell the roses or photograph the mushrooms. Something in that encourages their sense of wonder and that is a good thing.

OK. The BEST PART of this blog hop for me?  I have 3 of these kits to give away. All you have to do is comment and tell me about one idea you gleaned from "hopping" around. Who did you meet, what did you see … go explore (starts here) and then come back and tell me what you loved and …

YOU could WIN! **WINNERS of the Adornit Kits will be posted on Monday at noon

NOTE: The *fancy* glass is very important. I have a mish mash collection from garage sales and 2nd hand stores. If you don't spend very much money, you won't feel bad when something is broken — and actually, now that I think about it, the two tall glasses pictured here are left-overs from candles I purchased last summer.

The only other requirement is that you speak in a lame French accent when you serve these to your kids.
FUN. EASY. Memorable.
