Sprinkle No. 23

March 9th, 2010

When it comes to creative expression, we sometimes (quite often) get hung up on all that we aren’t doing or finishing or ultimately accomplishing. This is wholly unfortunate because generally speaking, it isn’t the end result that changes us.

It is the very act of making time to pursue and practice creativity that matters.
It is the process that will heal you and shape you and guide you in a more inspired path.

IMG_0957

With this in mind, your *sprinkle* this week is to simply photograph the evidence of creative pursuit in your home.  In other words, take a picture of the materials, the mess — the magic as it is unfolding.

This might be ingredients you are cooking with, seeds you are planting, yarn you are knitting, fabric you are cutting — you get to decide what is evidence of your personal creative practice.

I hope you’ll leave me a comment describing what you photographed, or even better a link to where you’ve shared this image.

Running a little behind with my *sprinkle* this week …

LemonJELL-O

Remember that box of lemon JELL-O? It is time to cash in the anticipation for some artistic presentation.
Whip up your box of JELL-O and serve it to your family in fancy glasses. I added whip cream and *sprinkles* to mine!

As you place these beautiful glasses in your fridge, remind yourself that it is quite easy to push some little aspect of life to the special side of things.

If anyone asks, Why the fancy JELL-O? Make something up and share it with me, here!
My response: It’s National Yello Jell-o day, didn’t you know?

and btw, the next time I ask you to buy JELL-O, it won’t be this easy — there’s that anticipation thing again!

I have ulterior motives for our *sprinkle* this week. These motives will be revealed on my main blog in a couple of days. This week you are to set aside one meal with your family and enforce a C-food diet.

mosaicff166ea6cd8e899cf3ddff8f23fcbe23eb181a69

The “C” is for creativity, of course. The purpose is to simply infuse your daily routine with a little more whimsy. So, consult the photo above, the list below, your pantry or your local supermarket and stock up on C-food.

And be sure to leave me a comment with your chosen menu. I can’t wait to hear what FUN you served up in your home and the reaction you received.

Those on the C-food diet, may eat unlimited quantities of the following foods:
carrots
cake (how about carrot cake?)
chips
chicken
cheese
cheeseburger
cantaloupe
Campbell’s soup
corn
chocolate (this should be must!)
cauliflower
crepes
cheesesteaks
cereal (Cheerios anyone?)
Cream of Wheat
Canadian bacon
cabbage
Cheetos (although I’m not sure these qualify as real food)
clams
chowder (and of course clam chowder)

lemons

Note: Hang onto the box of Lemon JELL-O. Just let the anticipation build!

Next time you go to the grocery store, purchase a box of lemon JELL-O. Place this box of JELL-O on the shelf in your pantry. When you glance at it, stop and wonder what Stacy has in mind and feel that magical thing called anticipation.

Hmmm.

What if you were a person completely and totally motivated by LOVE?

Love red-cupidLove

  1. How would you greet your children (spouse) in the morning? After school?
  2. How would you listen to friends (co-workers) when they talk to you?
  3. How would you view other people (drivers, shoppers, etc.) that cross your path?

Your *sprinkle* for this week leading up to Valentine’s Day is to increase the LOVE in your heart, by demonstrating more LOVE in  simple, everyday interactions with others. Yes, you’ve likely got a few cards and gifts to get and send. Perhaps a party to plan or cupcakes to buy. In the midst of all of that, examine your ‘real’ heart and see if you can be your own kind of cupid —  send people on their way with a greater chance of falling in love with their life.

When you meet with success, tell me about it!

February 2nd, 2010

Ahh, February, the month of  LOVE.

Definition:  love·fest
Pronunciation: \ˈləv-ˌfest\
Function: noun: love fest 2; broadly : an expression or exchange of goodwill, praise, or affection

IMG_0458_2

Your *sprinkle* is to cut out some big, imperfect paper hearts and use them to decorate a window or door.

Last night, each member of my family was given pink or red paper and a pair of scissors with the instruction to cut one paper heart for every member of our family. We then wrote on those hearts, one thing we love about each person.

I believe this qualifies as a LOVE fest.
it was FUN.

This week your *sprinkle* is to follow your curiosity and use Google or Wikipedia to learn more about an interesting person. Quite often when I’m reading books, I’ll circle the name of someone that is mentioned or quoted and write “Google” in the margin. It is delightfully fun to dive a little deeper into influential lives.

I just recently watched the fabulous movie, Julie and Julia and must admit that I was completely enthralled with a story of creative expression through cooking and the healing and guiding power of personal connection.

Life is busy, but I hope you’ll snatch up 15 minutes to look up someone you’ve read about or been introduced to via television or the movies.

Enjoy the chance to learn just a little bit more.
And … if you still have time, make something delicious with real butter.

Planes, trains and automobiles really are amazing.

plane taking off-1

Think about modern transportation as you come and go this week. Feel curious about things that go.

*Sprinkle* your life with a little gratitude for the time in which you live. There will always be inconvenience tied up in travel, but we are able to reach far away destinations in the matter of hours — that’s a cool thing.

  • Treat your trusty set of wheels to an automatic car-wash.
  • List the places you’ve flown to in the last five years.
  • Check out a book on the history of planes, trains or automobiles.
  • Talk to a child about how transportation has changed and about how it is changing to meet the needs of the future.
  • Ride the bus this week.
  • Leave me a comment and answer this question: If you bought a train ticket, where would you go?

I love this poetry called ‘Flight’ by artist Brian Andreas:
I knew a man in college who grew up in the inner city of Chicago & what he was doing in Iowa I never did figure out. But whenever he would see a jet trailing across the sky, he would stop everything he was doing & he would watch. Once, after a jet was gone & there was nothing left but the white line disappearing like a scar into the blue, he turned to me & said, An airplane is a miracle & I didn’t give it much thought, but now & then, when I am ready to give up hope for human beings in general, & for one or two of them who are bugging me specifically, I will look to the sky & there will be one of those miracles & I will remember it’s all about concentrating on the right thing.

Take flight this week — if only in your imagination!

I love preparing a recipe that reminds me of a friend.

chocolate_chip-cookies

My favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe reminds me of Michelle in Bountiful, Utah.
Taco soup, that we eat on Super Bowl Sunday reminds me of my sister-in-law’s sister, Syd.
Tuna souffle reminds me of my mom.

Your *sprinkle* this week is to share a recipe you love with a friend. You can send it via email, pick up the phone or deliver it in person.

Because you are all my friends, here’s my new and very delicious recipe for an easy meatless meal.

STOP

Your *sprinkle* this week is to STOP.
Really. Every time you encounter one of these very familiar signs. I want you to come to a full and complete stop.

This *sprinkle* is both literal and figurative. If you’re like me (confession time) you roll up to a stop sign, take a quick look both ways and then pull out in front of a car or cars because you can — there is both room and time to move on. However, if we stopped, all the way. We could pause; we could notice where we are and think for a minute about where we are going — the school, the library, the store … maybe even home.

Stop all the way this week.

After all, it is a brand new year, before we proceed full speed ahead in life, it might be nice to STOP. Look. And then proceed.

I think we might realize how often we feel hurried and how good it feels to deliberately stop.
