Stacy’s Favorite “Reduced Fat” Brownies

2 cups chocolate chips
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup applesauce
2 Tbsp margarine
3 egg whites
1 1/4 cups flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Directions
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F. Melt one cup chocolate chips, sugar, applesauce and margarine in a saucepan over low-medium heat and remove from stove. Add egg whites, vanilla and dry ingredients. Fold in additional cup of chocolate chips and bake 20 to 25 minutes, checking often. Do not over bake. Cool completely and cut with a plastic knife.

NOTE: Don’t be fooled, this is not a low-fat recipe. It is however a yummy alternative to recipes with far more decadent ingredients (like butter and egg yolks.) In my humble opinion, the applesauce and egg whites mean you can have at least three brownies and count them as one!

If you are one of the winners, send me an email with your info. Allison@stacyjulian.com
