Creative Growth đ±
If you have a really great idea or feel curious about a new venture, creative growth is calling.
Are you ready?
In todayâs episode Iâm sharing one of the most helpful concepts everâsomething I learned from Todd Henry many years agoâon his long running podcast Accidental Creative.
This is the illustration I spoke about in the episode. I LOVE the idea of a curve that represents our potential to keep on discovering, learning, iterating, sharing and ultimately growing in life. It all depends on whether we choose to be CURIOUS, or as Steve Jobs puts it, âStay Hungry!â
If you want to learn more about the phases of creative growth and where and why we sometimes feel stuck, I recommend chapter 3 of Todd Henryâs book, Louder Than Words
On his website, Accidental Creative, Todd writes about where we get stuck and what to do about it and says that both imitation (emulation) and crisis are extra tricky phases because they both represent a point of decision where you can remain doing what youâre doingâwith the skills youâve acquired, OR you can take a leap and begin somethingâeither a more personal iteration of what you already do wellâby diverging or an even bigger jump into something related but NEW. Moving into and through these phases can feel scary, because they represent uncharted territory with no guarantees. These phases require vulnerability and that special mix of humility and confidence, but both move you forward and result in growth. I canât tell you how often I have used these ideas in my own head to help me identify where I am and where I want to go next.
Iâm so grateful to my listenersâand a special thanks this week to Paige Sellers, who sent me a SpeakPipe message. She will receive a Story Starter kit from Close To My Heart â€ïž.
Next week, Iâll be teaching at RootsTech in Salt Lake City, Utah. You can learn more about this phenomenal eventâand how to listen in on some of the best classes via the FREE Live Stream HERE.
