January, February & March

Our Theme is Emotions

Emotions are universally human. They are NOT just feelings, but the stuff of meaning and story. The exact same situation will be experienced, interpreted, understood and remembered very differently by different people. The way you think about a particular circumstance will determine how you feel about it and then how you choose to act or not act AND the result created by your response will shape your story. Emotions are powerful and sometimes very complex and this is our season to explore and celebrate the influence they have on how we move through life, see ourselves and tell our stories—can we be more playful, productive and present with what we think and feel? Let’s find out!

Rote the Quote

Each season we work on memorizing powerful and positive words.
Before each live session, we read and eventually recite (until they are rote) the words of a quote.

True belonging doesn’t require us to change who we are; it requires us to be who we are.

Let’s READ a Book!

Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown

Depending on the research you read, there are 4, 6 or 8 basic emotions that people across time and culture experience. What do you think are your most common emotions? Would you like a deeper understanding of where and why these feelings arise and how to leverage them to create more authentic connection? In Atlas of the Heart, Brené will take us on a journey through 87 (that’s eighty seven) emotions to help us better share and steward our stories!

Let’s MAKE a project!

Extend a Story

Our project for January, February and March is the opportunity to extend a story. By this I mean, I am challenging you to find and select a single or double 12x12 layout and use it as the foundation for additional layers of deeper or updated story. I’m particularly fond of the idea of starting with something that is “finished” and tucked neatly away in an album. Because life is always unfolding in new ways to delight, challenge and change what we’ve committed to paper, scrapbook stories often beg to be revisited and updated. How will you document connections that have developed over time and extend a story to make it more detailed and interesting?
